Transitions

After Thanksgiving we moved Jason back into Addie's room to share - in preparation for the new baby. We figured we'd do all the transitions in phases: 1) Jason and Addie in same room, 2) Jason in top bunk, 3) Addie from crib to freedom in bottom bunk (the scariest transition of the three).
Phase one and two pretty much went together--Jason was so eager to sleep up high. Moving to Addie's room meant moving to the top bunk in his mind. And within a week he was able to master going up and down the ladder.
We had planned to do phase three right after Christmas...you know, let them get used to being able to talk to each other and stuff, before we gave over total control. But between sickness and travel AND FEAR it got put off . When Jason went from crib to bed, he was not a climber, he did not know how to climb down off the bed. The only fear we had then, was him falling off the bed while sleeping. Addie has been climbing on and off that bed for at least 6 months--I was terrified.
Well, we finally did it last week. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they adapt to new conditions.
There I was dreading the next month, or more, of Addie constantly climbing out of bed when she should have been going to sleep...but not so. I think she's done that once. ONCE!!! What a big girl she is! She climbs onto her purple sheeted bed, lays her head down on her Angelina Ballerina pillow, and snuggles under her blanket. AND patiently relaxes until she falls asleep. It's magical!
I really need to remember these easy triumphs, and apply them--potty training will not as hard as I imagine, weaning her from her lovey blanket - at some point - will not be a terrible trial either. NO need to FEAR, NO need to PROCRASTINATE. They happily survive all these changes--and so do I.
